"Stand In" Kayaks

Guys,

I’m going to replace my old Hobie Quest with something stable

enough to stand in and cast. I’d love to hear recommendations on

which brands/models I should test paddle.

Going to try the 13’ Malibu X-Factor & 12’Stealth, but hoping to get

some more thoughts & info on some other models. Thanks.

You need to check out the Jackson Cuda. There’s one for sale in the classifieds which sounds like a pretty good deal.

I can explain it to you, but I can’t understand it for you!

I have a 12’ Native Ultimate (around 6 years old now) and I stand in mine half of the time I’m out there. Even push pole/stand up paddling. My roommate has a stealth, I know he likes it a lot. Seems to be a little slower than mine. As Capt Dave said, demo as many as possible lots of pros and cons between all the models out there.

There are a ton of stand up yaks on the market now. The trend is to make them wider, and wider, and wider…

Think about how you will use the boat most of the time and that will help you pick a platform. If you never paddle more than 100 yards you can use anything. If you expect to comfortable paddle a few miles, especially against wind and tide, you need to be a lot more careful in your selection process.

Tons of choices and that’s a good thing.

Jackson Kayaks have a good selection going on: the Kilroy, Cuda, Big Tuna, and now the ulitmate flats kayak the Big Rig.

As several have already stated…Demo Demo Demo. This is the only way to ensure that the kayak that you choose is correct for your style.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

Pro Angler looks great, but price is out there and

the weight is a problem…it has to go roof top.

Going to try and make the “meet & greet” at Paradise this Sat.

Hopefully the rain holds off.

Thanks again…more thoughts are always welcome.

Don’t take this brand-name barrage seriously - get what feels best for you. As my colleagues have stated: demo, demo, demo!

Dave at Time-Out can get you in some rigs for seat-time…they can also answer any questions you have about a wide variety of boats and brands. Good luck!

i have a freedom hawk…way to heavy…

I have a stealth 12 and I’ve paddled for miles and stand up quite often. I throw my cast net standing up and its great being able to drop my bait in my live well right below me.

Isn’t the ride 135 supposed to be a good stand up boat? Someone has one on CL:

I’ll probably go for a Ride or similar standup model.
