Sorry it’s not a fishing report; no “kayak discussion” forum.
After checking the radar I spent an hour or so in the pool, learning how to stand up in the Pungo 120. First time I tried it on the Stono I nearly took a swim. After a short time got it figured out. It’s no canoe, but I feel comfortable enough for warm weather standup fishing. Maybe best of all I learned how to consistently move/fall back into the seat instead of over the side if things got a little shaky.
Also took some time to practice capsizing, righting, and reboarding, which was relatively easy. Learned that if she fills completely with water, no way to empty the boat in deep water. Must drag it somewhere where I can get my feet on the ground, then it isn’t too difficult to get most of the water out, finishing up with the pump. Nice to know I don’t need to go all the way to shore, but not nice to think of having to drag a full kayak any distance across deep water. The problem is that the former owner added two rod holders that penetrate the dry storage area. Trying to empty a full boat in deep water results in the well filling up also. I’m going to try plugging the bottoms of the rod holders and making this area completely watertight and see if sitting on the back of the boat with it upside down will allow me to raise the front and empty enough water to right it and finish with the pump.
I highly recommend this practice method to anyone new to kayaking, expanding their capabilities, or experimenting with a new yak. The pool was safe and convenient.
Best,

Put caplug caps on those rod holders and get your watertight compartment back water tight. Do that and you can put pressure on the stern and flow water out of the inverted yak. Give it a quick flip, swim your way into the cockpit and finish off with the pump.
If you don’t like swimming into the cockpit from the side you can slither up onto the rear deck and flop your way in.
Good advice on practicing wet re-entry. Everyone needs to do it a few times a year. It’s far better to learn how to do it before you really have to save yourself.

Too Busy,
Thanks for the advice. Looks like I am on the right track regarding the WTC.
Righting the boat and going in over the side could not have been easier. I flop over the top, then pivot into the seat.

I’m a pungo fan… but those sit-on-tops got it going on -in this situation:)
You could also try stuffing the voids with pool noodles. Gives you lots of extra float if it does fill up.
I keep meaning to slide a couple into my Hobie just in case it ever decides to start filling up.

So you gonna mount a plexi bubble on the pungo and start hunting below the surface??
I think I could fab a harpoon launcher from one of your flush mounts in a weekend.

I saw some stupid jet ski type thing on tv that submerges if you do it just right, like 1 foot underwater, heh. Made me laugh
