Staniel Cay

Has anyone ever made that run from Fla. , thinking about planning a trip and trying to gather as much info as possible. Mostly fun and relaxation , some fishing.

Why Staniel Cay?

Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.

What type of boat?
Its a long haul from Fla, I looked at doing it in a 35 Contender a few years ago but decided to just fly. Staniel is a cool place but i wound not recommend trying your boat unless you plan to be there for several weeks. Rent a house at the yacht club and it comes with a 15’ whaler and all the gas you can burn!

It is a cool place. We were fishing our way from Elbow down to Rum Cay and back. So, can’t comment about the run from Florida. The one tip I can offer is, we came in late one afternoon without a slip reserved and got the last one.

This was in May. Most of the other boats there then, were not fishing. More fishermen at Chub and San Salvador. Every island is very different.

Check out the swimming pigs, and definitely go snorkeling in the thunder ball cave… They had a pretty good get together on st Patrick’s day.

Capt Ed,your bringing back good memories!

jsauls1- If you go you will need to go to Big Majors Cay and see the swimming pigs, the Thunder ball grotto is a must do as well, Compass Cay Marina is a good spot for lunch. The “Aquarium” is another great snorkeling spot. There are 3 or 4 air plane wrecks you can free dive I think I remember only 2 were on the chart but locals can tell you about the others. Check around the Bar of Staniel Cay yacht club for a local named Wade he is the man for a fun day on his grady cc, he took my family out to a sand bar 2-3 miles long my 5 year dug her own conch and he made us fresh conch salad all on the beach. PM me if you want anymore details.
