Is this similiar to cutting board material? I have a few projects in mind and i was thinking about using this. Where can I buy it locally in bulk? Do you have any idea on pricing? I was thinking maybe a 4X4 sheet of 3/8" thick. Any helpful info or alternatives are appreciated. THANKS

Not being in Charleston I can’t help you with any local place that may have starboard. I will say that I have found a couple of good sources on Ebay. I would also google “commercial plastics” to find cutting board material. I have seen such material on the net so it would not be hard to find. My limited experience with starboard would say that it is not the same as it seems to be softer and would probably cut up more and not last as long as cutting board material.
You can use regular woodworking tools with starboard. Saws, routers, etc.
In Columbia, try Sabic Polymershapes. 1-803-254-0550

They have a wide selction of starboard and plastics. Prices for starboard are less than I’ve found through other sources. Don’t buy it from West Marine unless you have deep pockets.

Paxton Marine. They have an office in Charleston. I have spoken with them before about getting some of the new King e-board but they could only get full 4 ’ x 8’ sheets. I’ll split a sheet with someone. http://www.kingstarboard.com/Products/eboard.aspx

I use Sabic Polymershapes. The guys there explained that the only difference between their marine board (starboard) vs cutting board is a UV inhibitor. The cutting board seems to hold up well for them in the sun but I believe susceptible to color change. The 54 x 96 can be a little cumbersome to cut and transport just because of the sheer size… They have a nice cutting machine there and will usually make a couple of cuts for no or little charge. You may want them to cut it there. They also have access to lots of colors like grey which doesn’t show scratches as well but they usually need a couple of days to get it.
