Starboard

1/4" or 1/2" for a casting platform?

Thanks

That all depends whats under it, !/4 will not support it own weight! !/2 " need to be supported at least at 12" centers, 3/4" will work on 24" ctrs if your are not to big! I would opt to deck it with 3/4" plywood covered with 1/4" starboard.

Thanks. I’m talking about a raised platform added to my front deck and held by a turnbuckle.

Unless you lost a bunch of weight very recently, you may want to just use a couple of cinder blocks…

That's just cold Tim. He's not nearly as heavy as he looks.

Back to the question.
Personally, I’d go with 1/2" or 3/4". I wouldn’t even mess with 1/4" for something like that, unless you have plenty of support under it. Like boatpoor said 3/4" ply with 1/4" starboard on top of it.(but then you’ve got make sure to seal the plywood.)

I’ve got some white 3/4" if your interested. (I even know someone that can make an aluminum casting platform for you.)

I hadn’t forgotten your hitch. I’ve been doing some searching just to get some ideas, since I’ve never done one. I came across this:

I don’t think I could build one for less than that. It might be a better option. It’ got some good reviews.

That hitch only goes to 2005 models. Mine is 2001. That’s the issue I’ve been dealing with. Everything I’ve read pointed to having something fabricated like the pictures I sent you.

Ole’ Tim has been inspired so far in 2015!

I didn’t realize that. Sorry.

Re-send the pictures. My old computer crashed last yr. and I lost all my pics. Send them to: bobvg@sc.rr.com

Lets keep our eyes open for a used Reese hitch that we can get for cheap.(as long as it’s wide enough to cut down) It might be easier to modify it than to build from scratch.

“Inspired” is not the work I would use!:imp:

Sorry, Bob. Didn’t mean to put you on the spot. I assumed you knew I know EJ and was just joking.

FWIW, I went to the doc in the box yesterday and was clinically diagnosed with a severe case of cabin fever that was causing me to post all kinds of BS, but I believe I got it under control now.
