So this is the first time I’ve taken a look at any rod repair or building. My reel seat broke on one of my rods so I thought that I would try to fix it but where I’m havinf trouble is picking out a new one. The butt diameter of my rod is .688, how much larger should my reel seat be?

And that is usually just divided into two categories; big or small.The reel seat is always larger than the rod diameter. The difference is made up by wrapping the rod with spacer material (most typically masking tape) and then glued together with “thickened epoxy”. The epoxy becomes the permanent method of attachment and the masking tape is just the temporary method of making the larger real seat fit to the smaller rod “blank”.
This is just a standard spinning rod or baitcaster?

</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>If you can get the existing reel seat off, you are well on your way. But, all those lower parts are epoxied to the the graphite rod blank and it can’t tolerate a lot of twisting or prying.
I was told to take a dremil tool to it and just to be sure I don’t cut into the blank.

Find one that fits over your blank and is like the one you removed. Also look at the butt caps. When you see something you think you like and should work, call the guys and ask them if what you are wanting is going to work. PS If your rod has cork before the butt cap you will have to install/replace that too. Also, look over the rod building videos they have on their site. Very helpful and clear presentations. Your repair means the reel seat and bottom cork go on last. They usually go on first so, don’t let the videos throw you.
