Starter Kayaks???

It looks like something I’d like to get into (never done it) so I’d have to research it much more, but what types of kayaks would you recommend for a beginner? I’d be fishing in lakes mostly and occasionally some creeks down at the coast (rarely). Does it have to be registered?

Advice, tips, pictures?

Check out boats like the Pungo series from Wilderness Systems (http://www.wildernesssystems.com/wilderness-systems-product-group/elite-recreational) , or the Ultimate Series from Native Watercraft(http://www.nativewatercraft.com/) . These are sit inside styles, and in my opinion are better suited to lake fishing than sit on tops, plus they tend to make better paddling boats for longer trips.

In SC, as long as you do not attach a motor to a kayak, you do not have to register it.

If you are down here in the Charleston area, shoot me an email and I can arrange for you to demo or rent some of these boats.

See you on the Water.

I’d recommend getting a used one before diving in & spending alot of money. I bought a used sit inside & fished it for a couple years before getting one that was a bit more fisherman friendly.
If you can find a good deal on a sit on top that’s the direction I’d go. Getting in & out requires less effort & water that gets in goes out through the scupper holes.
If at all possible paddle it before you buy it. I know this is a little difficult when you buy one from an individual, But it can’t hurt to ask.

I say we fish 5 days & work 2
