my starter went out so now i’m trying to find the right one on ebay. i found one with 10 teeth but my old starter has 9 teeth ever thing lines up but i’m unsure of the extra tooth. the starter model #391735
anyone know if this is going to effect anything?
I know you can’t interchange the new style drive with the old. It’s easy to see if they are the same visually. As far as the tooth count, I don’t know 100%. You should be able to swap over the bendix assy to make it the same from your old one. If the gears are the same tooth pitch and align the same, the 10 would spin the flywheel faster than the 9. If there is a difference in tooth pitch or alignment, it will tear up your flywheel if it even engages.

I bought a cheap, off brand starter on ebay for my old merc 3.0. Lasted about 1.5 years, get what you pay for most of the time. Watch out for the unheard of. Rands on ebay.
