“Closely related is Factor 8, white perch predation, and DNR believes that white perch may be eating significant numbers of small stocked striped bass. This is one of the motivations behind delisting perch as a game fish, and the biologists made a point of reminding the audience that there is no limit on perch. They encourage everyone to keep as many as they catch.”

I’ve caught stripers on white perch, but that’s the first time I’ve ever heard of white perch feeding on stripers. I’ve always assumed they were about the size of a white perch when they are stocked.

Does anyone know how big the striper fingerlings are when they are stocked into the lake?

They stock them as 2" fingerlings. I have caught perch on 4" herring, so a 2" striper is nothing for them to eat. DNR should sponsor some perch tournaments. Most killed perch wins. Glad we dont have those asian carp, they are even worse. In my opinion the water quality that caused the fish kills is the main problem. Fishing was great before the two major kills. Plus there are a lot of small striper out there now that made it past the size that perch eat.

if i knew where to catch the perch i would do it on days the bite is slow. i have found them before fishing for striper. they will choke on herring trying to eat them. they dont care about the size of the bait. lol if anybody wants to give up a perch spot let me know. ihave met some people which only target perch and they wont give up there spots.lol they come back with some really big 1# plus size perch. may they all die is my wish!

i kinda wish that dnr would not stock any stripers this yer and maybe ; just maybe we will be able to catch some keepers this coming season. might not make sense to some but makes a lot of it to me. seems like most of the fish that ar caught now are in the 18-20 inch range. they are good and fat but short.

If SCE&G does not kill off the big fish this summer it should be a better year ahead.
