Spoke briefly to a friend of mine who caught the state record scamp grouper this week. Dont know the exact weight but it was in the 29lb range. It is being state certified today.
This would lead one to think that scamp grouper are doing better than ever.
A perfect case in point for those of us trying to sound the alarm that government regs are out of control when they’ve cut scamp grouper back to 3 per person from 5 AND closed fishing for them for 4 months each year.
Congratz to your friend. Please try and get some pictures on here of that broomtail.

I asked my friend if he would email me a picture of the record scamp. He said that he took pictures of it with a 35mm camera, and that he wasnt too computer illiterate. LOL. I told him that he could take the negatives and have them transfered over to digital. Excited to see the fish myself. Dont worry as soon as I see the picture, i will take a pic of it with my cell phone and transfer it over that way. He also told me that they had several others that they could not turn there heads. They pulled the drag and snapped the leader. WOW

The big ones bite different than the small ones. It’s kinda weird. Sometimes they surprise you when they pop up from under the transom. Just use those big gulp crabs I told you about…
