Station creek landing

Has anybody used station creek landing? I’m probably going to shrimp out in the Port Royal Sound this weekend and that landing looks to be a good place to put in. Any info on the landing and how the creek is heading out in to the sound would be great. Looking on navionics the creek gets pretty shallow in some spots. Thanks in advance.

No worries on getting to the sound by boat. My concern would be what you leave at ramp. Especially at night.

There is a sheriff’s sub-station in the overflow parking area, so if anyone is there you will be fine. That said, I have parked overnight there many times with no issues.

I have used that landing many, many times and left my truck there at night without any problems at all. One suggestion, though, is if you’re planning to be out after dark, I would run the creek out to the sound at low tide in the daylight to lay down a track to follow on your GPS. There are a couple of places that can cause some trouble at low tide, but they’re easily navigable as long as you know where they are and how to run them.

One place that gets REALLY shallow is where Station Creek comes into the sound. If you cut that corner to the right going out at low, you WILL get stuck. You have to go towards the ocean (east) for quite a ways before you can turn back to the right (towards the middle of the sound).

Here’s a map with a couple of areas highlighted that you may want to watch out for.

You can run out through Trenchard’s Inlet, but would have to turn back into Port Royal Sound. Look at a map, there’s a lot of shallow water there and that’s the long route to the sound.

As for the sheriff’s substation and overflow parking lot, they weren’t there the last time I was there which was last fall.

I had an axle problem on the way down the road to the landing there one time and a cop who was parked in the parking lot with his side thang in the car with him eventually came to see what we were up to. She got out and drove by us and away. He waited a minute then drove down to us and stopped. He hung out for a while and said he would never recommend showing up at that landing “without a piece” and he didn’t meant the hoochie that just left.

I went out of there a lot to Port Royal and on the way back in once after shrimping late at nigh was stuck for hours on the “shallow” spot marked above. Just go stay hard left coming out of there. It’s been years, but there used to be someone’s homemade marker at the exit on the grass side.
