I took my son out fishing today. We launched at super low tide and ran upstream a little. This was my first time fishing here, so I didn’t want to go far. We trolled into a creek and almost all the way to the ICW (Dawho River) and found a spot with lots of oyster mounds and feeder creeks around. I anchored us up and put a fresh piece of shrimp on my son’s hook under a bobber. Within a few minutes he had a stingray. He reeled it in and another in a few minutes later, both all by himself! I showed him the stingers and put them on ice. Now I have some great memories and some bait for shark fishing on the beach tomorrow. We took a nice boat ride once the water got moving too fast. We saw lots of dolphins, which is always awesome with him. What a great day!
I was very happy to have a GPS today. If you don’t have one, be very careful at Steamboat Creek if you don’t know your way around. It was daunting to see the way it goes from a landscape to vast water in a couple hours. Those flats out there are immense. I’ll be back with a partner and a push pole soon. I’m in love. Edisto is awesome.
Edit: ICW where we were is also known as the Dawho River. Didn’t know that until I checked it out on the map. Neat.
