Steering issue

The steering wheel on my boat locked up this past weekend. Turning right was no problem. Turning left was a big problem. The wheel stopped at the same spot every time I turned. After several attempts it started working like normal and didn’t happen again. Its not hydraulic steering, just standard manual steering. I guess it just needs greasing?

Any ideas would be extremely appreciated. The plan was to take my dad fishing Sunday. Called several marine shops today and all were booked a week or two out.

90% probability you have a steering cable going bad.

There is at least one thread on this topic. Try searching for it. If you can’t find it, post back here and I’ll try to find it.

Replace the cable before it breaks.
Greasing only delays the inevitable.

Done! I replaced the cable and helm yesterday.

Thanks for the information!

Happy (early) 4th everyone!
