Steering (manual)

Ok, so now my steering broke. I didnt really know what I was getting into but I pulled the plate off the bottom of the box, slid that planetary gear out and discovered just what I suspected: two teeth broken. SO, I am replacing that gear. My question(s) is/are is there anything that I need to do special when installing? I noticed a crap load of grease on the old one so my guess is I need to grease the snot out of it. Is there any other prep that must be done? Does the pinion/cable need to be positioned anywhere in particular before sliding that gear back up there? I appreciate any help. Thanks

an entire steering system including the cable is $189
where are you getting this gear? I wouldnt even consider replaceing a gear in the steering control box
why do you think the gear broke?
Iwould guess the cable is binding at teh motor, which means you are going to need a new cable.
if you applied enough pressure to break the teeth on the gear, how long do you think the rest of the system is going to last?

Yeah I was thinking about that and just got the entire system. I started on it yesterday but took me longer since I had to do some mods to the console. I am about to go tackle the cable swap out. What is the best way to run the cable? I was thinking of attaching it somehow to the old cable and just fish it through from the console to the motor. Is there a “best” way to do it? Thank you

You do not want to do this yourself. Trust me I have done it it really sucks. Take it to Chris V drop the 1-2 hundred and be done with it. You will likely have busted knuckles and fiberglass in orifices you didn’t know existed and then still need to take it to someone to fix that “one last thing”. Just not worth it.
