I use a 7’ one on my fishing kayak, for anchoring in shallow water…It has done a good job and has been very durable - just don’t drop it in the water - it sinks like a brick!

Me and a couple buddies made some homemade versions and now we all use them a ton. On everything from kayaks up to an 18’ Maverick.
i have the 8 foot version for my flats boat and i also have a powerpole and I would use this 99% of the time instead of my power pole and it works well even in hard current. Just make sure it’s secure to a line good because if it comes loose in deep water you’ll lose it.
yo
I use the 7ft on my Kayak(s) and Flats Boat, Also have the cajun anchor which seems to be a little more efficent in current
thats the pole in action on 3 fully loaded fishing kayaks

BTW, you can make a float for these things with a piece of foam “noodle” float.
is that Just in case you lose it float ??

As for a DIY pin, one of my friends has access to some 12’ fiberglass dowels. We cut those to whatever length we wanted. Sharpened one end with a belt sander and added a metal tip (made from a Stainless screw). Put a PVC T- handle on the other end. Done.
use one on my Carolina Skiff as a cheap power pole. Does the same thing just manual. I dont use it often but when you need it, it works great.

I think Guy C Lee Construction in Mt. Pleasant carries those fiber glass dowels for $34.99, Call before you go

I have an 8’ “home-made” one and it’s awesome. Holds my 19’ bay boat in place and does not spook the fish like putting in the big anchor. Obviously they have their limitations as far as depth. But I never leave home without mine.

I have had the 8’ Stick-it for a few years. Takes some effort to get it into hard sand, and will need to go down 1-2 feet in mud to hold a larger boat (I use it on both a 14 and 22+ ft boat). I second the idea of a float on the line(s) as sometimes other folks don’t cleat it to boat as well as you might. My piece-of-pool-noodle float has simplified retrieval more than once.
You can make a stick for less, just like you can make your reef anchor for less, or heck build your boat for less. No complaints for the money spent.
Love mine and it is indestructable. Quick easy anchor in shallow water.

Thanks for the info, probably gonna pick one up. Still not sure how it can hold a 20ft boat in place though but oh well.

A guy on THT makes “anchor stix” out of fiberglass. Can make any length. 85$ to your front door. That’s where I’m getting mine for the 19’ boat. Just bc its fiberglass. Plus he makes some with a camo handle and with a cork handle and they both look sweet

They Work surprisingly well, I have a Carolina Skiff 198 DLV with T-top which catches the wind like a sail. And that thing works better than anything I have owned.

Getting my fiberglass shrimp poles next week. I ordered 2 extra pole to cut to 10 ft. Going to make my ow handle for the top and brackets for bow & stern. Hope they are stiff enough to work.

Hey guys, as an alternative to this discussion I thought I’d share what I have been using on my 22’ Pathfinder which also has a T top. I’ve used this approach in up to 10’ of water. Go to Lowes or HD and buy a galvanized 8’ ground rod. It is already has a point at one end. Drill a hole in the other end, place a shackle in the hole and tie 10-12 piece of line to the shackle. Tie the other end to the bow cleat and when ya get to where you want to fish, just throw it like a spear to the bottom. Quiet and effective. I use in in conjunction with my power pole to “lock” in the boat between piers when I’m bait fishing for Reds. Total cost is less than $15.
Blackhawk, think shrimp poles are too flexible, just say’n

Best investment lately for me! If you get one also buy a short “noodle float” and slid it down over it. They will sink if you don’t. I call it my “poor man’s power pole”
