Stick It vs Cajun Anchors

Hey guys, was planning to buy or make a Stick It Anchor or a Cajun Anchor. Was wondering if anyone had used both & could give me input on which would be better around these parts. I could see a Stick It being more accurate as far as being able to anchor in an exact spot but Cajun would allow you to anchor in deeper waters maybe? Seems like a stick it may work better in harder bottoms while a Cajun may take several throws to get it to hold?
I looked up some DIY ones & it looks like most common is a wooden dowel rod with PVC pipe over it for a Stick It & a house ground rod for a Cajun. You guys have any better DIY ideas?
Also how well has your DIY ones worked & held up compared to the manufactured ones.
Appreciate any help….

Best DIY one I ever saw was a stainless rod with an eye welded on the end. I’ve seen the wooden dowel inside PVC but it didn’t work very well in hard sand…

I have a stick it on my flats boat and love it.

I’ve used one that was a steel pole and it had the loop for your anchor rope at the top and worked well you could use it shallow in what ever you could force it in and in deep water as long as the bottom was softish, you just throw it in like a spear and it would stick in the bottom and hold pretty decent.

You ain’t really talking apples and apples. Cajun Anchors are heavy, will punch through crusty stuff and oysters(to a point), and typically are thrown in like a spear. If you dont have under gunnel rod holders or somewhere to store them on board they are loud and will beat the inside of your your boat up. Stick-Its are light and won’t beat the inside of your boat up. They have a “T-Handle” and you push them into the bottom where you want.

I know a bunch of professional fishermen who use Stick-Its, and none who use Cajun Anchors. The argument would be if you want to anchor deeper than you could reach with a Stick-It and need something heavy to throw in to pierce the bottom to anchor your boat, well you probably should be using your Danforth in that spot.

I have made a few out of 8’ fiberglass rods by gluing a PVC T handle on the end. They work great. I had formerly made one out of PVC and conduit but it was heavy.

I have had both and will gladly sell you my 36" Cajun anchor for cheap, have not used it in three years. I pretty much exclusively use stick-it poles now. It may seem like 8 ft is too long but go ahead and use it, you will need it. I cut my first one down to 6 ft and it does not get used nearly as much as the full 8 ft’er.

Thanks guys. Sounds like Stick It may be the better way to go. I will try to look up some places that sale fiberglass rods that I can make one from. I will see what is cheaper, making one or buying an actual Stick It.
Thanks again.

It looks like a 8ft one from Stick It is $90 but I found this site you can order all the parts from to make your own. The parts to make a 8ft one is under $40. Here is the link if anyone is interested.

Titan, a sponsor here (shrimping section) makes and sells them for I think $50. (http://www.titanfiberglass.com/) It saves you some money in shipping cost and they are nice.

Thanks MRR. I think they are the way to go.

There was a group buy a little while back for the parts to make your own. Pretty cheap if I recall.

I do remember a post about that. Of course before i wanted one.

I believe Geronimo handled that. Maybe he can tell you his source.

I have used both and have a Cajun. It will go deeper than you think as long as you got mud bottom and holds good. Not good in the lake. Not near as good in sand or shelly bottom. If you make a pvc case for it with a cap then it stores pretty good. I do know you got to have a sturdy mount and big screws or thru bolts for the Stickit to stay on the boat with a hard bottom. I was with a buddy of mine on lake. Brand new Stickit on a clay bottom. Boat came by close with a good wake and we noticed we were moving. Stickit with mount was still stuck - just not hooked to the boat!

I have an 8 ft from Titan. Would not trade it. Haven’t touched my anchor in the creeks in over a year holds well even in the outgoing tides around Edisto.

I have both. the Cajuns do a better job for me holding in swift current conditions and in all conditions. You can use these up to 8’ deep water. The 8’ sticks it will not hold for me at that depth. I fish out of a 21’ bay boat.

I always use 2 Cajuns. 1 for front and 1 for the rear. I tied floats to the end of the ropesin case the rope comes out of your hand as you are “chunking” it. Otherwise you can lose an anchor. Ask me how I know :sunglasses:.

The stainless steel Cajuns are the best. The heavier weight allows for better penetration and less corrosion than copper or galvanized ground rods. Again, ask me how I know. :sunglasses:

The Cajuns are a poor man’s power pole…

I cantacted them and i can get a 3/4" 8ft for my jon boat and two 1/2" 8ft for my kayaks for $119. That includes shipping. If i was local i could have saved 19 on shipping. Can’t beat that.
Thanks guys for all the help.

I have both, a 10ft fiberglass pole and a Cajun anchor. The Cajun anchor is easier to deploy but often it will come loose and you won’t know until you notice the boat drifting, for that reason I like the fiberglass pole better but only marginally.

Got my anchor poles from Titan this afternoon. They look great. Hopefully the rain will hold off tomorrow and i will get to try them out. Thanks again for all the help guys.
