Sticker Removal

I have a FL fishing ruler sticker attached to my boat. I want to replace it with a SC one but can’t seem to get it off. I would just put the SC one over it but the FL one is bigger. Any ideas on how I can remove it? Thanks

Heat it up with a hair dryer and peel as much off as you can. Use Goo Gone to remove any leftover adhesive. If you have never used Goo Gone, it is a citrus based cleaner/adhesive remover. I have used it on all kinds of surfaces and never had it hurt a thing. You can buy a small squeeze bottle or spray bottle from Lowes.

WD-40 works too. I took a sticker/decal off of my Harley fender with it. Seemed to work pretty good.

WD works good on painter surface, as I too have cleaned up some stuff on harleys, but the WD will stain the fiberglass of a boat, Im just sayin…

Goo gone would be the best. It cuts through any adhesive fairly well and when teamed with a straight razor you have any unstoppable combo. The application leaves no residue like wd40 or other petroleum based lubricants/solvents.

Thanks for the advice. Will the goo gone soak through the sticker to the glue? What’s the best way to apply?

Have you considered checking the florida one, and if the slots/sizes are the same, just keep it!

That would be the easy thing to do! If it was just in the right spot I would consider. It also looks a little rough around the edges!

Take a straight razor blade along with some windex or something to soften up the 1 edge of the sticker, continue to pull it up while spraying something to loosen up the sticker. Then take the googone and wipe off the glue and residue. It’s just like removing a sticker from a car window or removing window film.It takes little effort just a little time.

Double D.

What G3 said. Use a razor to start one corner of the old sticker and just pull it off. If it’s dry rotted, you may have to start a new pull with the razor as you move along. Once completely off, there will be the residual adhesive. Just run the goo gone across the top and let gravity pull it down over the adhesive and soak in. you can’t use too much of it. let it soak into the adhesive and then use the razor or mud knife to scrape the adhesive off.

Just take a heat gun and it will come off in seconds

3M adhesive remover works well also

Use a heat gun, but be careful not to hold it in one spot for too long. It could burn the gelcote. Just wave the heat gun over the sticker until it starts to shrivel. Once the sticker is removed, use acetone to remove the adhesive.

Scuba’s method is exactly what I do.
