I’ve always used Yamalube or Evinrude 2 stroke oil in my 97 90 hp yamaha(premix), never had any problem. Since this spring, I’ve used the WallyWorld 2 stroke oil, it’s a little cheaper.
I just spent 1/2 the morning pulling the carbs off and unsticking the float valve on 2 of the three carbs.
I learned a long time ago, you get what you pay for, back to the Brand name,I’ll go.
Just my 2 cents. I used to use only quicksilver in all of my boats (40 and 90 Mercs). The wife and I use so much of the stuff I had to make a more economic decision on oil. We did some homework and have been using the wallyworld stuff in both for 2 years with no issues. We go through 4 gal. a summer with the pontoon (40 hp). and a couple of gal. in the bass boat. I am sure I have just jinxed myself by saying this, but had to post.

My boats have been sitting more this year. In past years, they were ran at least every week. Not this year. I believe this is why I'm having problems.
Not saying anything against Pennzoil, Yamalube or the rest of the name brands, But I have only used the WalMart brand of two stroke oil, with nary a hitch. Engine cranks everytime and runs great.
Sounds like you may have had a bit of shellac build up. If you don’t already do this try running all of the gas out when you flush the motor. If you can, unhook the gas line at the engine and fire it up. It should run long enough to flush the salt water out then sputter. Once it sputters, shut it down.

Hasn’t failed me yet in my 1996 Evinrude 88.

Thanks Jisuho, I have started doing i this, since the motors are not being run as much. I drained out the tank on one of our jetskis, and it had over 1100 ml of water in it.
