Looking at a possible trade for one. The 16’ no motor hull and trailer only. What are the good, the bad and the uglies with this boat? The fiberglass one supposedly build in north chucktown not the Lowe aluminum ones. What kind of power should I.put on? I see some with 50s or 60s how fast does that go? What is the optimal power on one? Thanks yall

they were notorious for transom cracks
where the rear storage box meets the transomother than that, Great boat
I have owned 2 of them
50hp works perfect
Would that be considered a transom crack then or a deck crack? When I think transom crack I think of a verticle crack in the corners or something. Not on the deck where 2 different areas are laminated together.
I say this because my boat has a similar crack where the rear deck/box meets the transom and I don’t see it as a structural issue in regards to the transom. Just a stress crack in the deck.

I have a Stinger 16 SC that is cracked where you mentioned. Is the repair very expensive? Who would be good to take this to for repair.
Thanks
Mike

I had a 16 with a 40 Yamaha, Yak. A friend of mine founded and owned Stinger Boats. It’s a great little boat, but I suggest that you put at least a 50 HP on it. The 40 is not quite enough power IMO (and not just because I like to go fast, but because the boat just didn’t plane right with the 40). From what I recall, a 60 HP is the max for the boat, and if it were me, that’s what I’d put on it if possible. It will float in very little water, though, and does pretty well in a chop. Altogether, I thought it was a great little boat–especially for the price.
P.S. The one I had was the side console. It had lots of room and a spacious casting deck–plenty of room for a trolling motor and a pedstal seat if you want one.
Gotcha Covered,
