Stinging slime

This may be a dumb question, but this Saturday when I was fishing with my father, we both noticed a lot of what was a mild to moderate stinging goo/slime on the anchor chain and the leaders of our bottom fishing rigs when we were fishing the jetties/grillage. What was that stuff. The sting was anywhere from barely noticeable to down right uncomfortable (but not debilitating or anything). Is it some slime from jelly fish (we did notice a lot of jelly fish in the water) or something else?

Yes, it’s jellyfish.

I had the same thing out at the jetties as well. Got some on my leg and it was definitely noticeable for 15-20 minutes. Noticed that it tended to stick more on the braid than mono. Lots of jelly fish around the boat so that’s what we assume it was as well.

Lots of sea nettle out there in August.

hot jelly!

fun when it drips off the longline/trawl net on the way up and wipes across your face… lotta nerve endings on the lips.

I hate it when it gets on my cast net then I put it in my mouth!

Got it good on the tip of the tongue from the net the other day, I agree, not something I want to do again

Is it weird that I enjoy that like I enjoy the smell of pluff mud?

Most people would probably think so  But I can relate to that. Pluff mud smells like home, jellyfish in the mouth feels like home. Got to pay your dues.

Kinda like the smell of ballyhoo as the sun rises…something’s just right with the world then.

Did a number on my arm Sunday. Got a couple hundred dots between my arms, hands, and legs. Stuff is everywhere.

Couple weeks ago I tried to shake some off my glove and it wrapped half way around my neck. That was awsome.

A lil meat tenderizer will help you through the sting if you’re short on beer, I keep a lil tenderizer on the boat for such occasions.

Any particular flavor work better than others? Maybe Shrimp flavored? A little on my arm, a little on the bait.
Liquid or powder?
