Well, got set up on the ground this evening since the projected winds would allow me to hunt this spot in the swamp…wrong winds, at least up until 6:15. Pretty much said this hunt just went up the creek along with my scent to every animal living in this swamp. 6:45 everything had came to a stand still and 5 minutes later I thought I heard a limb crack. 60 yards there stands a nice 8 point just as good quality as Stlhnr that he shot and about that time when the crosshairs settled in on him I realized the wind had shifted and was blowing right to him. Ol boy bounded off blowing every bound he made until he crossed the branch letting every deer around know Houston we have a problem and to abort operation acorn.
need to learn to be quicker on the trigger squeeze when you see something worth shooting. You’d never make it dog hunting.
I - watch - the ones I don’t intend to shoot, for as long as I can. I only - watch - the ones I intend to shoot, for about 4 seconds before the bullet hits them.
I shot two eight points while you were narrating your story.

Heck no, I’ve been in the stand several times this year and only pulled the trigger on one fat doe with no fawn. I’ve had several opportunities for large bucks, but that’s not my target. I like Doe meat much better. I leave the horns for the youngins and those inclined for something to put on the wall. Wall trophies lost their appeal as I got older. Seems too many modern day hunters are more worried about horns than meat. Reminds me a lot of modern people that fish. I guess I’m becoming a dinosaur, but I’ll stand by my convictions till I die.
I know you are taking a jab because of your supposed impression of ALL dog hunters shooting whatever runs out. But that is just not true, many hunters that use dogs practice strict guidelines on what they shoot. With fines for killing anything under weight or less than 4 pts per side. DId you know that? True of many clubs.
It’s really a shame that a small group of outlaw dog hunters have jaded you so badly.
