The game will not begin until 2/11/08 and will run for two months until 4/11/08.
I will keep up with and post results to CF.com (at least on a weekly basis). You have all next week to familiarize yourself with the rules . This is my first time setting something like this up so please be patient if there are hiccups! I advise you to use your CF.com username so there is no confusion.
This is a game and NO MONEY will change hands here. If anyone has an idea about how to reward the winner please post. Maybe they get treated to happy hour somewhere. I am open to suggestions. Any questions check the website or email me at carl.hitchcock@comcast.net
Now let’s get it on!
thanks to calm like a bomb for the recommendation.
It def. could. I have just gotten into messing around with this stuff in the past year with etrade playfolios. I have a VERY small portfolio my pops started for me when i was about 10, and just made my first trade under my own decision today. I have had a sick feeling all day because of it. I picked up 25 shares of Yahoo at 28.70. I’m a dummy.
I used to fish a little, but a little wouldn’t do it, so a little got more and more
Microsoft offered $31 per share and Yahoo closed at $28.38 so there is obviously some concern that someone else will come in with another bid or Yahoo will ask for more. If you think you will feel like a dummy after making a trade then you prolly shouldn’t make that trade. If I were you I would stick it out until the next round. I also left some on the table today in expectation of a higher bid or more talks. This is real money. The game I have started is all phony money. Now let’s get it on!
yes, we’ll wait until the 11th to begin, this way it will allow enough time to get more people involved. I will try to keep up with everyone interested and either PM them or email them to remind them of the start date the Friday before we begin.
i joined im gonna lose cause i have no clue what im doin… this wont cost any money will it?

ABSOLUTELY NO MONEY invloved. this is all just a game. the only money involved might be to buy the winner a beer once we finish!
You must register at the site listed above to play in this game. This is not spam, I have zero affiliation with this site. Come on, let’s have some fun!
I really didn’t feel like a dummy when i put my order in, i was thinking more along the lines of a google re-enactment in the shoes of yahoo. Oh well, the market is not free of risks, and im sure in the very long run my money will come back to me.

Get ready to pull out what hair you may still have…this site has a 20 minute time lag on filling orders that WILL piss you off at times…still a fun game though…

I don't and have never owned YHOO, but the correct thing to do after this announcement and sharp gain is to SELL Yahoo. Chances are, nobody is going to outbid MSFT for the company since they are probably the only feasible customer at this point. Also, they won't over pay for it since they are too smart of a company. On the flip side, if the deal falls through, Yahoo will come tumbling down very quickly. This is one of those situations where there isn't much upside left, and plenty of downside. Yahoo should pretty much stay flat at this point since anyone who want's to take profits will, but as soon as a dip comes in, people will rush back in to bid it back up to the asking price. Check out HET for example. The stock remained relatively flat after the merger was announced and it was just closed out recently. Some people bought several PUTs on the stock hoping the merger would fall apart and send the stock tumbling. If for some reason, YHOO dropped a little before the deal was completed, then there may be some room to make money, but you should never buy after such a strong move upward like that.
tidewater has a point. even though this is just for fun, there could be some valuable lessons to be learned from one another. even though we will be able to tell who is doing what on the game website I thought I would post maybe twice a week or so and update the standings. we can tell about our good or bad moves and why they were made.
skinneej had a suggestion to extend the end time of this game. for now I saw we stick with a two month time period, but I do have the capability to extend if should we choose. we can always begin a new game as well.
**we are now up to 12 people. Remember, we start Monday 2/11/08.
Can we extend this out to a 6 month minimum? 2 months is really kind of short. It would even be better over a 12 month period. You can do a leader board report every month. Sometimes you have to let your trades simmer for a little while…

It doesn’t matter to me one bit. Whatever the majority of the players want to do I will do. Y’all make a vote:
