STONER(1-28-10)Forgot the Ballyhoo...

Come on guys, don’t let Skinnee get off light on that one. “Not that kind of girl”, lots of room for bashing here, especially since I haven’t seen anyone whorin’ #‘s, secret spots, or even secret INFO yet. Topwater lures/poppers have been around since day [1] of offshore fishing; and especially for Tuna; I still want to see some GOOD info posted before I cry “whorin”. wtf back 600 yds. falls in that catagory I believe, so I’ll retract that statement. That one still has me laughing in amazement, maybe the poster meant 600’, I hope so; even that is stretching the limits imo.

The S4G secret of 2010 will be the use of my new to me 130 class penn international I bought off a buddy. I had to spend a fortune but it has 5000 yards of 60 pound braid give or take a few yards. I am going to troll it WAAAAAAAYYY back this year. Keep this to yourself now.

If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you’ve got an electrical problem.

Congrats on trhe 130; hope you can use it this year. Just remember you can’t complain about that waaaaaaaaaaay back line getting cutoff; also remember you are putting other fishermen in danger of being stranded with a cut water pump seal with that 60 lb. braid. So please re-consider that waaaaaaaay back not being so waaaaaaaay back for courtesy to others, and keeping your lures and your cool. Thhat was part of this thread of course, being considerate of others in those crowded conditions. My waaaaay back was usually 150-250 ft. not yards for those reasons.

I plan on flying a flag with the distance posted in big letters on it so other boaters will know how much room to alot.

5,000 yds. 60 lb. braid wound up in an ob prop/water pump, or wound up in an inboard shaft grease seal sounds like 2-3 more pages on this thread. That subject doesn’t get much attention on this site, probably those who run their waaaaaaaaaaaaay back think anyone who gets close enough to cut it off deserves it; well, 600 ft. to 600 yds. is just unreasonable to expect. I never thought about that danger being out there when I fished the Hole, guess I was lucky to get back every time safely, although I did have an inboard seal leak on one trip. It was packed fresh before that trip, too; maybe I just was not suspicious enough of my fellow fishermen. What say ye’ fellows?..

So 50 miles offshore how close do you think is to close? Basically how close should you be able to get to the stern of a trolling vessel??

Well, 300 ft. is a football field; I’d say no closer than 500 ft., but some probably think that is cornholin’. That’s why this should make for an interesting thread that has not been elaborated on to my knowledge. I don’t know how serious the post was last year about 600 yds., probably was serious; but I assumed you were going to go beyond your norm since you now have a 130. The farther offshore, the more clearance could be a good rule of thumb I suppose; but some imply they should have all the clearance they want. Good question, hope we get many replies…Only 55 more reads’til we hit 10,000, let’s go for it…
