I just sold all my heavy gear for offshore, so I’ll probably buy some surf gear. You can advise me on what I need for this season, since I have owned [7] offshore boats I NEVER thought I would have any interest in surf fishing. Georgetown Hole will be closed to bottom fishing if we stay here arguing about whether to troll or cast to blackfins. The proposal to do it is on the table now, and it’s the preferred alternative! This is no longer speculation or fear-mongoring. It is coming.
As soon as next year, if you’re casting or trolling at the GTH, the Royal Terrace, the Deli, the Needle, the Edisto Banks or SWB’s (OR WHEREEVER AT THE LEDGE) and are caught with any one of 73 species of snapper-grouper complex fish in your bote or with “assessible” bottom fishing gear on your boat, then you are going to be breaking the law.
Time to ACT. There are threads all over this forum suggesting how.
No problem Phin; the DC trip has everyone’s support I know, I’m just having a little fun on the net during the cold rain and winter. Can only talk about fishin’ right now, and I enjoy that ALMOST as much as actually fishin’. Thanks to cf.com for rescuing me and others from the doldrums, and being able to preach a little catch and release brfore the season begins. Just like to stir the pot a little and get some good conversation since I can’t go to the Marina or tackle shop right now for my fix.
I think it is funny that people complain about 100s of boats being parked at the hole. You know they will be there before you go so why complain and/or why go there?
Right on the money, ChumKing; I EXPECT #'s at the popular holes to be large, same as the Folly Pier. Secret holes are the only answer for people who can’t deal with the large #'s, that’s common knowledge. Now Sells, if Skinnee is calling charter cpts. over to his hole, why is he so upset about us cf.com guys hearing his reports? My guess is 60-70 miles offshore charter cpts. will do far more damage to his spots than cf’ers. I NEVER attacked Skinnee, he attacked me; I’m just defending my position, from everyone’s replies Skinne must be a great guy, hope to meet him some day, certainly would love to fish with him. Comments on this site should not be taken personally, for the most part; just different opinions like every other part of life. Trying to get everybody on the same page is probably impossible, but we are much closer to that goal after this thread I feel. 8 pages in 8 days, looks like pretty good interest in the subject anyway…Keep it coming…

Courtland sure took his lumps for learning a secret and letting it out, I don’t mind taking mine, for the masses; Sellsfish defended you and so did others. You obviously have good character, so why stoop to degrading one’s opinion that does not agree with yours? I have not and I will not degrade you or your opinion, just good conversation that should be helpful to some, not to others. I don’t see that many cf’ers running 70 miles offshore to bother your secret hole, compared to trolling charter cpts., maybe I’m off base on that comparison too?

Sure, as stated several times before. I share quite a bit of information especially with people who I know, talk to over the phone, email, VHF, etc. They call it “collaboration”… I just don’t feel compelled to be an information whore and lift up my skirt and share all of the “goods” for the world to see on the internet. I just don’t want that type of reputation. I’m not that kind of girl!
