Great advise guys. Please heed it. STOP FISHING!! All of you riding the backs of Courtland for posting helpful information on a site that has given him alot should take your own advise and stop eating the “pie”. tunahut, catalac, papa bear and others please stop fishing, stop eating the pie as you say. Those of us who enjoy our time with friends and family on the water kindly ask for you to stop fishing. Most of you are probably in the 10% that you speak of catching 90% of the fish. So you dropping out of the fishery will be much more of an impact than us internet dorks.
If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you’ve got an electrical problem.
This site is an AMATUER site, as refeence to fishing, that I believe, is the purpose of forums, to help the amateurs of that forum. The pros don’t need a forum for info, they have cell phones, email, vhf, you name it; HOWEVER, where is the amateur going to get info he may not be able to afford the learneng curve way? WE {me too}, have no plans to become pros and diminish the resource, we are ONLY occasional fishermen with limited funds, knowledge, and even limited interest compared to Courtland with 1,400 posts and others like Court; therefore, yes some serious fishermen will benefit from these reports, and may diminish the resource, but I don’t think serious guys are depending on this site for their info. My guess is SERIOUS info is only shared by phone, radio. or other protected venues. Secret is fine, but don’t rob the amateyrs of their little bit of fun discusssing this sport that MANY pros onthis site say is NOT overfished, and they don’t mind the little bit of competition coming from this forum, if Courtland and others who are accomplished fishermen don’t feel threatened, why should the other pros?
Amen, Due South, what happened to sharing a good thing when youfind it, rather than trying to hord the good thing because you are selfish? We recommend restaurants, businesses, books, all sorts of things on a daily basis, why not fishing info? My first reply to this thread was in reference to being selfish, and that seems to be the important subject here, if you are selfish {referring to no one in particular}, then admit it and end it at that. I’ve been to the Georgetown Hole 2 or 3 Saturdays, and NEVER seen more than 10-15 boats there, probably because I am an amateur, and don’t know the good #'s; but 100 boats at one time might concern me too. However, MOST fishermen on this site will never be regular visitors to the Hole or the Ledge, we are just trying to be a little more successful when we do go. Or probably more than likely we are just dreaming anyway, so no serious threat to the serious fishermen.
Why do ya’ll give a good man like Courtland a hard time. He is trying to protect our fishing rights and setting up a protest in DC. He helps the weekend warrior fishing crowd with cool fishing tips and gives lessons on how it’s done. He puts up pics and numbers to show how good he is and spur his ego on. Let the man be and don’t be jealous when other fisherman catch more than you. Experience and patience is what does it. Sh t, just look and learn and let a man do what he wants with what he catches.
Everytime I log onto this thread I type out a paragraph or two and end up biting my tongue or fingers for that matter. I find myself eraseing what I wrote out because I have friends on both sides. I think everyone just needs to let this thread go and set aside the egos. I honestly think if the crews *****ing at each other would actually fish together lasting relationships would be developed, but “tuna” egos are getting in the way…

eastbound, i know your boy courtland is a good dood. this has never been about that. you would think that the norm would be for everyone to kiss and make up, hold hands and live "happy ever after". the reality is for those very few that decided to follow a dream of biulding your "Qwan" around a passion that most just enjoy as hobby; well, everything becomes personal. when you believe in something to the point you will put everything on the line for the dream that one day it will all be worth the sacrifice of all of the early mornings, long days and late nites; it's just getting harder to beleive. i know this will be laughed at and ridiculed by some but for those that share the reality of declineing busines, fuel cost, depleated resources and overcrowded fishing holes, it really becomes a gun fight with only blanks to shoot back. i know that catalac said some of these in a certain way, i just wanted to say them for myself. on this side of the tracks the walls are slowley caveing in and without everyone takeing licks and dishing out some, we will loose the one thing that we love the most. Courtland i'm sorry for player haten', i will show you no more personal disrespect. i have a lot of fight left in me though just not much for this thread. i know that the fight is not really with you personally. the system however on the o
First of all, I am going to admit to being selfish…and that is not a bad thing, we all are. Everyone here is selfish in our fight against SAFMC, we want the fishery we have lost back and don’t want to lose any more. Some here, including me, are selfish in the push back against this site adding pressure to the resource. Some here that are pissed about the push back are selfish because they do not want the flow if information they enjoy to stop, even if that means additional pressure to an already under attack finite resource. Stop pointing the selfish finger…it points right back.
The real debate is…do fishing reports and tips on this site (like the one on this thread) add pressure to the fishery? A couple of years ago I would have laughed off such an idea…now I believe it is valid.
Just wait until May or June when the first report of good Cobia numbers at the popular near shore reef on HHI are reported on this site…the next day the number of boats will triple, guaranteed!! Anyone that fishes down here knows it’s coming and dreads the first post…it eventually gets posted, and then it is parking lot central. If you cannot see the effect this site can have you are blind.
That being said, I never get to fish anymore and love reading the posts…so what the ■■■■■…selfishly I want them to keep coming and selfishly want them to stop. Either way I am a selfish prick I suppose.
It's not a question of who owns it. It's what makes you think that it's the experienced person's duty to TELL YOU HOW to harvest it after they have spent years trying to figure out how to do so on their own?
If you truly believe in sharing 100%, let’s post all of your favorite bottom fishing numbers up on this board right now, for all of the strangers who you have never met. Don’t “hoard” them…
Based on Papa Bears youtube video and narrative, its not to hard to find out where he was fishing, and they are not really seceret spots or areas.
Everyone from Charleston, beaufort and HHI fish the edisto banks and royal terrace area. Many people from HHI, edisto and beaufort fish the south ledge area.
Dont blame the recerational guys for these fishing all these areas, blame maps unique, sst charts, roffers ect.
These spots were named long before most of us were on the internet or actually trolling them.
I have a friend who had a charter business in charleston for a few years before he sold his boat. He would glady help you out on the radio to put you on the fish, and steer you clear of thunderstorms, as do many of the Charter Captains in this area.
Everyone spends a fortune on offshore fishing, boats, equipment and fuel, most of us dont have all the time in the world to fish, therfore reading reports is a great tool to help narrow the focus on where to fish, along with roffers and other tools.
Anyone ever fished the not so seceret hole or blackfish banks?
Well guys, this thread has been VERY successful in my opinion. One of my early posts was to emphasize we all need to be on the same page, and I think we are getting there. Catalac admitting he, like the rest of us, are selfish about our love for the HOBBY and sport of fishing. Papa Bear with his commercial interest SHOULD be more selfish than the rest, no problem; but this site is INTENDED tobe for reports, helpful hints, swapping info, and just good ole’ fun. No one is asking for personal #‘s, and secret holes, and none are usually given. Cornholin’ is as old as the sea itself, always will be around. I, personally am a King Mackerel fisherman, that’s the most cornholin’ sport of all, 10-20 boats on a reef or rock only 1/4 mile or so in diameter; with CONSTANT lines being cut off, and boats running over other boat’s fish during the fighting of the fish. We {KM fishermen}, expect that and TRY to be patient with it, sometimes tempers flare; but not often, just like Bass fishermen, hunters, etc. It’s a crowded world, and we must adjust or be angry all the time. MANY guys on this site constantly are posting there are still good #'s of ARS contrary to the SAFMC reports; and primarily the big problems of overfishing comes on the nearshore reefs. Sellsfish’s comment about 6 pages over bft shows his ability to catch fish, MOST guys on this site have NEVER caught a bft, and would salivate at the idea of fighting just one bft. THAT"s the whole point to me, the damage done here to the fishery is very minimal, because we are amateurs, and the weather fronts every weekend for the past twenty years or so has protected the fishery very well. Us weekwnders, unlike Papa Bear and the charter boats, are the least likely group to affect the fishery in a negative way. As Whalure stated, weekenders only go to the places shown on the charts, typically, and that info was available long before the cf.com site was ever thought about. As one who has taught KM fishing in the past, I can ASSURE you the info given only benefits ab
Mac daddy, I lost you when you said that you fish at the GT Hole on saturdays and never see more than 10-15 boats… You are talking about the “Georgetown Hole” and not the “Ghost Town Hole”, right?
