and I was up, staring at the moon. The legendary Sellsfish had sent a late PM that he wanted to make the run down to do a little fishing, I hoped the bite would still be on, but had my doubts. Sells and his youngest, Michael, arrived in a timely fashion, immediately made their peace offering, and we made our way out front for bait. There was a kingfish boat laying down evasive maneuvers before we reached the beach and they were pros, you could tell they had just cleared the racks at Bass Pro Shops of every available Columbia garment. They had me throttling back to avoid there wakes and they beat us to the bait, they then raced off to the first drop 45 miles off. We eventually caught them.
Team Columbia
The Columbia crew told me the cobia had passed without eating. This particular spot has a resident family of cobia that mingles with the AJ’s, first boat on the scene always gets a shot. We fished alongside for a bit and decided to move a few more miles off. Mikey insisted we stay and battle more AJ’s and was nearly in tears as I pulled off to the next spot. His frown turned upside-down shortly after our run as he nailed the first chicken and then a true dinner plate trigger.
The fun continued until Mikey insisted that he catch a few sharks. I honored his request and we proceeded to bail sharpnose until our fingers bled, literally. Again we moved and Mikey stomped his feet, moaned and whined as Sells shook his head in disbelief. “My boy is going to be a Navy Seal”, he had told me earlier.
So it is, and was. Sellsfish got bit by a shark-his boy got a nasty sunburn and I got a pack of RED MAN and a bag of Dorito’s. I would definitely do it again, thanks for making the trip.
Totals:
3 gags
2 chickens
1 good time
a decent box of bsb, triggers, b-liners and others
I enjoyed that the other day and hate it I had to come back to the Ross due to seasickness setting in on a few of the crew. That’s the second trip this year I’ve had to call due to goo-gin’s getting sick.
I’m headed after some brown fish Saturday if you’d like to ride. Just call me if so. Right now I have Brandon, his brother, and myself.
Thank you for the invite, but I’ll be licking wounds from Saturday I’m sure. I know I’d like to make that run with you again to scamp alley sometime soon. If not in your boat, then mine. I just assume you drive and I’ll hit the bean bag. After what I saw on it last week and caught in 30 minutes I’ll need to be rested up. It’s tiresum hitting that button, drinking beer, and talking smack at the same time all day.
thanks again for the trip. here are some more pics of the trip.
