STONER (7-11-08)

Needed a day to clear my head after a week or so with the family. I was fishing today for anything-anywhere. The swells weren’t to bad and I made bait quick so I slow rolled out to the Tire Reef, about 15 miles off the beach. Gaskin Banks was breaking Hawaii-Five-O style so the seas must have been bigger than they felt. Fished there for a bit and pushed out to 90’ after the morning breeze laid down. In 90’ I saw some birds working and eased up to them to see a bunch of what looked like spades feeding, after closer inspection I realized it was no less than 50 grown cobia feeding on glass minnows. They sounded before I could get a livey on the hook. Pretty neat to see. I was tempted to keep going but there was a storm forming around noon so I decided not to risk it and pulled in lines around 1PM. Oh yeah, the bite was pretty good too.

Totals:
6 Gags
15 ARS
30 BSB
A couple pieces of trash, but not bad.
Pretty good for fishing solo.

You have been doing pretty good with the gags and ARS lately…

Phin-us southerners may put a crew together. I’ll be in touch.
McMarine- I was by myself and ALL fish were left to fight another day. I just needed to wet a line.

Seems like most folks are scared to play. I think you might have something for us.

Courtland I don’t post or reply to topics much at all on this site but I was laughing my a>> off with the “Hawaii-Five-O” description of the waves…that was classic and the younger CF posters may have no idea but that was great

How many of the gags and snappers would have been legal and what were you using for bait? Nice report.

I’ve never caught a legal ARS or grouper. I fish with wonderbread.

(There is a fishy tournament soon. E-mail me and I’ll tell.)
