STONER(9-26-09)

Left the dock @ noon. Hit 220’ by 3pm. Had our limits by 6:30. Back to the dock by 9:30. 220 miles round trip. Bottom only. The NE wind had weed lines in near 45’. No life on top out deep. Quite a few fish were bagged on jigs, I would say half.

nice report.

It was bumpy for the 1st. 20 miles, 30 mph tops. It slicked out around R-7, 35 miles off. Saw a boat that was coming in from deep and they said it was slick the whole way. We made the rest of the run around 40mph and the return trip around 42. Alot of miles but we were dying to try the jigs out deep. Hammered jigs w/siwash hooks caught just as many fish as live and cut bait. But things did work just right, they were chewing as soon as we pulled up.

To clarify, 3 man limits of:
scamps
triggers
porgies
A few ARS and b-liners
the sharks moved in as the sun went down

An AJ pullin’ at the tower

Reggie working a scamp In 220’ on a hammer jig. Look how nice the water is!

220 miles??? how far out were you? Move to multiple spots all around?

I have a 12 mile run to the beach from my dock, then we zig-zagged and changed headings on the way out b/c of the ruff seas inshore. Scamp Alley is just over 80 miles off the beach, it adds up. This particular area is a series of 10-15’ gradual ledges over an area of .5 square miles.

Didn’t check the reef. The tower had a decent school of cigars on it but the bo-bo’s and cudas may pose a problem as the bait stayed down most of the time. Tomorrow looks like a good day to be sick. Where you headed?

Fat-Cat – I am thinking about being sick as well. Give me a call later.

Friday looks like the day to be sick…

I have bought two butterfly jigs with hooks at about 35.00 each and both times I was cut off on the very first drop! these trips were about a year apart… don’t know what to do different in the future! wrong depth maybe!? dunno [:0]

I think you got cut off by kings.I was jigging in 100 ft a couple months ago and lost 2 jigs on 2 drops and on the 3rd drop i finally got the culprit,it was a 25 pound king .

Hows that OTI set up treating you??

What color Jigs were you using and what Oz.

And are you using a shock leader?

I suspected it was probably kings or cudas getting my jigs but that gets expsensive fast at zero successful drops per jig… both times I was in the commanche area in late june!
