Eastbound, Will “double stuff” Guscio and Bad Apple joined for a trip to the deep blue. Hit R-6 for bait right at sunrise since the pinfish trap didn’t produce last night. Made bait and pushed off towards the Triple Ledge. The last 7 miles were a bit bumpy so I pulled back and lines in around 130’ in some scattered weeds. Black/Purple on the planer goes off before the second line is in the water, slinger. Do it again, cuda. Again, slinger. Finally after a few miles of this we get all the lines in and make way to the ledge. No hard breaks or weeds but we manage a few more mahi and then got the release on the cuda that turned into a sail after the third drop back. What? I called cuda, turned out to be a nice sail(first for the boat) that we got some good action photos of. Good fun.
Moved on to bottom bumping and put some big b-liners, triggers and a snowy in the box. On 2 occasions the mahi rolled through and we littered the boat with them while bottom bumping.
Most of the fish were small today. The b-liners were big and the sail was good size.
Total (for the table)
9 Mahi
12 B-liners
3 Triggers
1 Snowy
Many fish released to live another day.

One question though, if you kept putting lines out and getting strikes as soon as the bait got in the water, why did you troll away from that area? Might have been a fun place to chum them up and start with the spinning gear…
23- The wind kicked up and we were still 7+ miles from my #'s where I wanted to fish. The only reason we put in was to not be running anymore. Also, when the mahi came on the troll they were loners. Trust me, the spinning gear is always loaded, that is why I ALWAYS have live bait on board. Nothing keeps them around the boat like some stunned mullet or cigars skipped off the cowling. The only schools we saw came by on their own when not trolling. We did debate working the area initially but with no structure, rip, weedline, etc., we decided to press on. Good call too, we wouldn’t have gotten the sail.
