STONER Report 3-6-08

Made way @ 6am with Marsh Daddy and Bad Apple, we were greeted by calm seas.

Headed south to the Grand Banks and stopped in 110’ and the screen looked like this.

Must have caught over 300 fish today. Most of them were small, except this surprise.

At one point moved out to 130’, but there were no fish. So we went back in to our other marks and finished out the day. Chris “new daddy” got a needed rest today on the way in.

Seas picked up to about 2-3’ for a bit, but inside of 35 miles we were back up to 40+ for the ride in.

Totals for the day:
50+ Pinkies
75+ BSB
5 bluefish
5 B-liners
2 Triggers
3 ARS
10 sharkies
1 king(3 fish skied on a blue fish we had out 20’ from the boat)
all sorts of other bottom dwellers

No slobs but a good day on the water.

Very nice report and catch.

Pro tip though- crop out a certain bit of information in top of 2nd pic.:smiley::stuck_out_tongue:
Looks like fish could be another time of the year if the right ones weren’t there today.

I also like the inclusion of the Avet on the trevala.

Its OK. That area is 20 square miles of live bottom. Plus there is probably a little black dot on MU of the spot, but it is a haul, 60 miles from the dock. I don’t think you can make it in your boat!

I see Star Delux, Shimano Trevala and bass pro shops jigging rod.

I am thinking he is sponsored by SPRO though…

Yes. I had too much time on my hands when I noticed the above.

What transducer do you have on that northstar unit, Courtland? How does it perform when cruising and at deeper depths?

Luke 8:22-25

-Phin-I have a 1KW ducer that is “glassed in”. For those that don’t follow- cut big hole in dead center bottom of boat-push ducer up from below so the face is flush with gel coat- jump in bilge area and reglass. Reads in calm seas as fast as boat can go. Picture decreases with slop but I can usually prospect for bumps and ledges up to 30 mph or so. Just need to set the screen speed to fast to read all the little stuff. Very happy with this type of install. Also no problem on the trailer since it is flush and sits in between the bunks. You do lose the speed though(not that it matters with GPS and rpm’s). Deeper depths are just as good. I’ll usually swich to mixed50/200 from 200’-500’, then just 50 over 500’.

  • SJ-No ugly sticks on board.
  • EF- slow winter at work, busy now, but still need a day in the week to keep me going. I coach my boys soccer and will lose Saturdays and one day a week for the next three months(starting next week). Trying to fill up my memory bank so I don’t go crazy while you all are out when I can’t be.

Congrats on the good trip and nice weather.

That was a run south!

The only difference between men and boys is the cost of their toys.

Looks like a good day.

Did you catch the king on that jig?

Super D- Chris was bringing up a random bottom dweller on the jig and the king picked it up boatside. After that we set up another drift rod and put a bluefish on it. The kings were all over it.

Nice report.
I know how you feel about Sat. I coach my 5yr daughters soccer team and my 10yr sons team. So 2 days a week and Sat. And Sundays are rarely great fishing days.

If you can’t stand behind our soldiers, try standing in front of them.

Great post and trip Capt Court! Did actually sleep some on the way home.

I was using a Shimano jigging rod and avet reel with a pink butterfly jig when I got the surprise from below. The best part was that we could see the king come up and hit bait from about twenty to thirty feet below.
