In much need of a break from work and took a quick trip with my son to test some new prototypes for JigSkinz and get him bent on his new flyrod in preparation for an upcoming trip. With 80 degree water everywhere we would have been happy with some Spanish macks or whatever. Eased our way out making random stops to investigate bait schools of various types to no avail. Finally settled on an area in about 75’ where we started to see some flyers. We had to improvise due to some really GREEN</font id=“green”> water, super nasty looking. My son switched from a fly to a small bucktail just to get tight as the fish would not come up on the poppers for the bait and switch. Apparently it takes about a minute per pound to catch fish on a flyrod but hey, we had nothing better to do.
A few fish later and it was decision time. Head deeper and look for some bluer water or see if we could get lucky and grab a cobia on the way back to shore. As luck would have it we weaved through the fleet as the tide swung and made quick work of 3 sight casted cobia. Two rats and a keeper that went back anyway. I got 2 of them on my new Pogy JigSkinz and my boy got one OTF, no bucktail. Rolled in to a calming sea and hit the pool for a swim and a burger. I so needed that.
