Stono 1/26

On the water at 9 for the last two hours of the outgoing with TexasRed and my son. Water temp was showing 42 to 44 by the end of the day. Not sure how accurate my temp is, but the water was COLD! on the hands. However wet hands mean released fish. Ran at least 1/2 mile of shoreline down to slack tide and only saw one 4-6 fish school that bugged out as soon as the lure hit the water. We anchored and fished some crab in that spot during the slack then swapped sides of the river and worked the other direction with the incoming. Blind casting we caught a 16.75 and a 24.75 red of a point and couldn’t keep a hook in a pair of over slot fish at another prominent point. All on Z-man Paddlerz.

Just curious, what is your go to paddlerz color? I have only used redbone. Rigged on jig head?

Fished today for about an hour caught one red on gulp. Released the fish and headed in. Water felt freezing.

im not to sure, but im pretty sure…

Mine is Houdini. Redbone works well too.

I hope the water temps don’t stay down for too long. There were two good years for the trout to rebound after 2009 and 2010 killed a lot of fish. I know SC was not as bad as NC, but we still had a good many fish die because of the cold. Maybe the temp drop was gradual enough for the trout to move off shore before getting too cold. I really want to have a good trout year this year because I’m coming home in May after being in Okinawa, Japan for three years. 21 years in the USMC, and 9 of those years have been overseas. Unless WWIII breaksout, this is the last time I ever go overseas again. A TAD trip inside the USA is alright, but overseas is done for this guy. I know my next three years will be good years in Beaufort, SC. I hope to go to New Orleans after Beaufort. Then, I can send you guys some pics of some trout from the Gulf.
