My son and I hit the water around 6:30 this morning from Limehouse. Immediately went looking for bait. Had to work a little for it, but got plenty of finger mullet, 5 spot, 1 1/2 dozen BIG shrimp, and a crab. The first spot was jacked up with too much wave action and dirty water from the wind. Spot two was a dock that had quite a few fish, but they were finicky. Missed one on shrimp then next cast hooked up only briefly. Switched sides and saw more reds. Tossed out a mullet on the bottom and a few minutes later my son wrestled a 26+" red to the boat. The school was spooked so we headed towards Wadmalaw Sound.
Stopped at one of my better spots and quickly caught a slot red on shrimp. I rebaited with a spot and my son tossed it out. I grabbed a Z-man rigged on a flutter hook and tossed it into the small cove. My son hooks up and a second later my bait gets crashed; double on! My son had another slot red and mine was 26+". Once again all the commotion spooked the school. Worked the adjacent shoreline then to a spot a few hundred yards back up river. Switched to otherside of the river and began working the small open areas of the grass that were being flooded.
Got on some nice overslot fish congregated around a particularly good looking stretch of shoreline. Caught reds 29", 27", another 27" then a 25" all on Z-mans. My son also lost another one.
Headed back towards the ramp and stopped at a dock that is usually really good, but only got one trout. Went to one last spot in sight of the ramp and threw out the crab in quarters. only took a few minutes for another slot fish to find one of the pieces. Called it a day after that. Saw Stonoman and his new ride and stopped to chat awhile.
Total of 9 reds (all tagged) and one trout.
