The whole family enjoyed a fantastic Saturday evening with some friends enjoying freshly fried tortilla chips with homemade salsa, guacamole, and wahoo ceviche followed by a main dish cooked in a Mexican discada which included bacon, chorizo, pork, sausage, steak, onions, and a can of beer eaten on corn tortillas. All washed down with plenty of ice cold Corona. Needless to say I wasn’t moving at full speed the next morning…I knew better and had already planned to go out late in the afternoon.

With my wife and son we left out of Limehouse around 3 PM. It wasn’t too bad at the ramp and we got a nice parking spot with some people leaving, but was greeted with morons everywhere. We grabbed some finger mullet (where have the shrimp gone?) and headed South. Stopped a few places, but the tide was ripping out and the water was like chocolate milk. Headed into Wadmalaw sound past metal trades and the water was still dirty. Set up on a shell bank and waited for the incoming which came, but with more dirty water and the wind honking to 15-20 kts. Headed back to the river and worked a bank while waiting on the water to fill in. by this time it was 6 PM and my non-fishing wife says were not going to catch anything and my son is looking put out.

My last chance was to play the odds at the closest to a sure thing spot I have. With the water climbing the bank towards the grass, I started to see some signs of life. Nothing fantastic, just some waves that shortened up against the push of some single reds. Had a mullet under a float that didn’t get touched, but the Z-man paddlerz came through. First red was 19" and reeled in by my son. The second had shoulders and my son convinced my wife to reel it in. She played along until she got it to the side of the boat and it took off peeling drag all the way back to the bank. My son took over and brought the 27 incher to the net. I had a few minutes to keep fishing while my son packed up the tagging equipment and emptied the livewell. A few more casts and I had a
