Local looking to get on the Stono and do some fly fishing. If have a flats boat and was wondering if I can get on the Stono at low tide to explore. Probably launch at the Limehouse boat launch. Go slow and learn as I go. Have not been there and was wondering about the possibilities. Thanks for the help.
There are some excellent low tide spots around. I just recently got a skinny water boat and I’m doing the same thing. I’ve found a couple of decent enough spots, but really I’ve been chasing the high tide fish so much, I’ve neglected the low tide stuff probably more than I should. If you leave Limehouse and go left, there’s about 1000 creeks within a few miles to explore that way, although I’m not sure how many are productive. Going the other direction there are a bunch of tiny creeks on the north side of the river that might yield you more fish faster. I’ve been slowly exploring those, but haven’t found anything spectacular yet. Get out there on the low or incoming. Get stuck and all you have to do is wait on the tide for a few minutes to lift you back up.
Let me know if you want company some day and we can explore together. I live about ten minutes away and can sneak away pretty easily. I can certainly show you some high tide stuff.
Sounds good. I was trying to find it if you can get on the river at low tide from that location in a flats boat. You say I can. Great. Thanks for the help. I will be in touch and we can make a trip.
At Limehouse? Yes, there’s plenty of water leaving from the ramp in both directions. A lot of those creeks behind the Redneck Riviera dry up on dead low though. There are some big mudflats in certain areas just out of the channel markers, so be sure to pay attention to where you are heading.
Try to go during the week if you can . We took my flats boat this past Sunday and launched at Limehouse. Crowded but everybody was taking turns ( as we all learned in Kindergarten ). Rain came up pretty quickly so we and the other fisherpeople had to run back to the landing . Got there and all the drunks from the Redneck Riviera were there all ready . Several large party boats tied up to the docks, blocking the ramps. Drunk folks diving and swimming off them.We called to them to please move but got the one finger salute in response. After chilling under the bridge for 45 minutes enough drunks got out of the way enough for us to get out. I thought about calling the law on the idiots but I chose not to do so.
