Moved from ji from mtp . Grew up on the cooper and wando. Need some help fishin the stono. I live in the terrace so I use that boat ramp. Today I came out the cut and went right . Went to the first creek to the left and went back as far as I could. Looked like a good spot but I didn’t even see any bait in there. Managed to hook 2trout before I had to head back. Any pointers would be greatly appriciated.

How many times have you been out on the Stono? Put some time in and you will catch plenty of reds. A few tips with the Stono: 1. regarding docks, look for moderate current and fish the sides right up against the bank and at the first dropoff during the bottom half of the tide 2. Most fish I have found to be in the ICW, not in the creeks 3. Get used tp fishing dirty water, but do move around to find cleaner water as the really muddy stuff moves with the tide.

What Hairball said plus Get in the middle of the ICW and cut your engine and drift.Check both sides of the river for pushes.Look for the birds.My favorite dock had gulls sitting all over it.LOL

Welcome to the Terrace, Garet. Stono produces up against any bank with oysters in the IC. I have never had much luck up in the creeks. But as the other guys said, plenty of action near docks. Oysters anywhere near deeper water hold trout. Find the piles at low tide, then come on back as it rises. Topwater for trout at dawn and dusk is best near or between docks near feeder creeks and reeds in calm water. Just lazy dog any topwater lure and wait for the explosion.
I don’t think the Stono is as easy as the Wando due to our stained water, but there are plenty of fish!

Pungo 120Stono has seemed to be a little slower this year compared to past years although it definitely still holds plenty of fish. Doing a little homework will lead to some productive days. Using Artificial in the Stono can prove to be a little more difficult when compared to other rivers around Charleston because of the water clarity, but as long as you use scent you should be good to go for redfish. This time of year mud minnows seem to work the best, and when the shrimp start showing up in size and numbers they can’t be beat. Nothing beats a nice lively shrimp. I love watching them jump right before your about to get a bite.

I too think the stono has slowed down a little…but as they said…check it out on low tide to get ideas where they might be hanging…big boats passing through and weekenders can add to the toughness of fishing it at times…good luck to you!

Any thoughts on going north or south out of the wappo cut.
Head South towards Edisto.Water is clearer and around marker 100 it is pretty good for trout.
