Got out there on the last part of outgoing and it was surprisingly flat even though the wind was crazy. Pulled into creek where we have a spot new to us and wanted to fish it at low tide… HAAA!!! THERE WAS NO LOW TIDE TODAY!!! So that sucked. Tried to hit a few other docks for sheep but then the tide switched and we had to get the hell out of there. Pulled into another creek close to the ramp to try our last luck but no takers. In that area (Stono inlet area) most of the spots I like fishing require less H2O! Ah well… might try 2 hours in the morning near limehouse.
Used shrimp, minnows, cut mullet, soft shell crab… no takers. Target reds except for one stop for sheep that didn’t quite happen due to wind and chop.
That area was nasty yesterday on the falling tide…
actually, on the falling tide it was almost flat for us heading out of Sol Legare towards the inlet. Then once we came out of one of the creeks and headed down the Kiawah it was the stupidest thing we did yesterday. hugged the side of the river that was calmest. Once back into the stono and halfway to the ramp it settled down. Pulled into Abbapoola (sp) to try to salvage the trip but nothing wanted to play tug of war.
went out today in the limehouse area and tucked into another creek. no luck. just still too much water. did find plenty of mullet in the shallows. once this weather system moves through then i’m sure the bite will pick up and the fish will drift into their summer time routines. (for me that means fishing deep portions of the docks).
saltfisher, what boat were you in yesterday? I’m sure we probably saw you out. Saw two boats cruise over those rollers in the Kiawah like a hot knife through butter.
that was us… I was in a shearwater. We were headed into the wind and whitecaps…Capt John was behind me in a scout. That was about as rough as I have ever seen the Kiawah.
