Good to hear this! Been wanting them to take them out for years now, they are hardly ever in the right position anyway. I’m allways more nervous about hitting one of them while running track line at dark thirty in the morn. then running aground. Can be tough to pick them out on radar as well when it’s choppy or they are in the surf break.

What does this leave? Just the sea bouy/bell and the #2 nun at the Folly River?

Hey, Stickman, how’s it going? It just leaves the 1S and a red #4 coming in. I had a hard time last Thursday finding the red #4 on the way in because it is so small. I think the Coast Guard doesn’t want us to use the inlet. It really is pretty tough getting back in on a low tide if the wind has a lot of breakers; can’t see the red buoy…and that is the one buoy you need to find.

Glad they are gone as I have always had to worry about hitting one in the dark. They’d barely show up when hit with a light until you were right on them.

Seen them in the wrong place on several occasions, and in the worst stretch between the river and 1S the buoys were just about pointless anyway.

Advice to others- do not run this inlet if you never have before. Little room for error. Around 2-3ft in the deepest part of the channel going around the shoal on both sides at low tide. With any real easterly swell, there are breakers everywhere to capsize you.

I haven’t run out the inlet since Labor Day-and that was in my McKeeCraft 185 that draws < 2ft. I got a bigger boat recently, 22.5’ “bayboat”, and was hoping to fish nearshore this month.

Squalus-
I guess you sold your boat? I saw your other boat at the dock on my way to Folly Xmas parade.

No, haven’t sold the Blacktip yet; it’s down at Rockville getting the bottom, etc. done. I fished the nearshore last week and caught a handful of legal sea bass and also a couple of 46" Smooth Dogfish. It was actually pretty nice out there last Thursday…You shouldn’t have any problem with the inlet unless it’s dead low and you are coming back in. Rick.
