My wife’s best friend asked if I’d take her dad out while he was in town and he loves to fish. Well, she ended up coming too so it was 3 of us at 6:30 am as we made our way down to the folly ramp. We got to the spot a little after 7 (stopped for gas) and first cast (by her father) didn’t even hit the bottom and he brought in a 26" red. We could’ve stopped and he would’ve been happy but we kept fishing and picked up a short one for her but then she missed a biiiig dog.
After tide got too high for the spot we booked it to the ramp, put the boat on the trailer, flew to limehouse, and got there just in time to pick up a nice 30+ incher going onto the flats. Prettiieeest red I’ve ever seen. It was not copper but instead a nice bold pink. Looked like a blush (wine) color. Her dad got him in and it was just one of those great moments that you hoped for and got. Ended the day off of shark’s tooth island but no luck there.
All on cut mullet BUT I think shrimp would’ve been the ticket. Oops Lost texted me and said he did great on shrimp. Seemed like the reds we did get tended to “mouth” the bait first before committing to it. So even if it’s a frozen little cheap shrimp pack… TAKE IT WITH YOU
