Stono/Kiawah Area quick outting

Short report. Had my wife, her friend, and my son onboard for a short afternoon trip. Got into a creek I like too late but still managed to miss one big hit and then lost what seemed to be a pretty big (**() red. I let my wife’s friend fight it and she actually was doing everything right yet the 60 lb leader snapped after a long fight. I don’t think it got scraped against anything but I don’t think it had any nicks (sp?) on it either since it was a fresh leader. Had it about 20 inches long (the 60 lb mono leader). Kind of baffled but I guess it must’ve had a small nick on it.

Went to one last spot afterwards that’s been good lately but couldn’t keep a bait on the hook longer than a couple minutes before crabs demolished it. Ah well. No fish but had a good time. Also learned something new at the first spot… I threw more left of it to avoid hanging up and that’s where I had luck.

We’re you fishing a dock? That’s a long leader for a Carolina rig, my guess had it picked up and into some stuff before you knew he was on. Otherwise it was a shark, bheads are thick especially in the Kiawah. Try a foot or so of leader

14’ Skiff-“Redfish Reaper”

nope, not a dock and definitely not a shark. saw the tail and also the location of the break in the leader was more towards the top only two inches from the swivel. you’re not lying about the bonnetheads. surprisingly have caught more spinners in the area this year than bonnetheads.
