Been fishing everywhere in the Stono from the wapoo cut down to the small creeks around kiawah river and have had no luck when it comes to landing red or trout. Caught a good amount of bonnet head, black tip, bluefish, flounder, and the typical whiting but no red/trout. Not asking for yalls spots but I’m losing faith and itching for some spot tail any tips/tricks are appreciated! I usually start out throwing artificials/corks w/shrimp in all the typical areas( near structure/ oyster beds/feeder creeks) before I throw a Chunk of cut bait and catch whatever’s out there.
Keep trying, it’s a trial and error thing. The more you try you will get it figured out.
Double D.
Run and gun, don’t waste too much time in one spot. High tide troll along grass lines. Move quietly and make long casts.
Great fishing over where you are at, just keep at it especially around Kiawah Island. When learning new waters I like to go fishing last 2ft of falling and first 2ft of incoming. Focus on structure for the reds and current rips for the trout. Marsh drains and creek mouths for flounder. Live bait this time of year is king, so invest in a cast net and get a variety of bait to try. 1 dz MMs, 1 dz shrimp, a few finger mullet, 1 choppah mullet, 1-2 blue crab and a couple menhaden is my minimum bait requirements before I even wet a line.
Live bait & oyster banks.
