First I want to say thank you to all on this Forum. I have been reading your post for a long time and enjoy the post and support for each other. I am looking forward to providing ■■■■■■■■ of my own soon.
My question is this, I always fish the Wando when I come down from Fort Mill SC and next weekend I will be on the Stono River. I have tried to find reports on the Stono and keep coming up short. Any do’s and Don’ts with regards to navigating or fishing in the Stono. I have a Triton 240lts boat.
I wish I could help ya, brother but I don’t fish the Stono. I can tell you I’ve noticed the reports during March tend to drop off quite a bit. Either people aren’t going or they’re being tight lipped. Probably a bit of both.
Anyway, good luck to ya.
No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets, or how far you fall…you are never out of the fight.
Thank you guys for the ■■■■■■■■ and thank you for compliment on the wrap. March is always a hard time of year, weather is up and down. If by chance anyone has any suggestions on navigation or areas to stay away from that would be helpful as well. As for the fish we will either find them or have a great time on the water looking.

is concerned ,great guy, he won’t lead you astray!!!
What part ft mill you in ??? several here from ft mill
As a fellow forum member suggested to me, slow the fishing down on the stono. Not sure where you will be putting in, but there are some decent shell banks as you get closer to the Kiawah River. We used mud minnows on a Carolina Rig and picked up a slot Red and an under slot Flounder last weekend targeting docks on the incoming tide. Threw all fish back to see another day.
Gail Wins, I am actually in Indian Land SC they just call it Fort Mill. I will look for Mr. Hanley and see if he has any other pointers.
Camballin, Thank you for the heads up on slowing it down. I have been trying to tell my son that all winter in his bass fishing league, now if I can just get him to listen. I always throw my fish back, take a picture and put them back for the next person to enjoy.

Most of my fishing time on the Stono has been down toward the ocean end. We’ve had a lot of luck, but it seems to be more spot oriented than rivers like the Wando. I can pull up along just about any bank in the Wando and catch fish, but the Stono I need to pay much more attention to tides and conditions.

No fish in the stono and the few there like jim beam. Definetly fish as far as way from the inlet area you can no fish there at all not enough tidal movement. Don’t fish by any creek mouths on a falling or rising tide. Definetly don’t use live bait. The fishing on the stono is garbage. All the fish like the mt pleasant and wando area and will only bite if your wearing expensive fishing apparel. Go buy as much yeti and huk apparel you can wear and as many stickers you can fit on your back windshield. If you really want a good chance go to a tackle shop pretend to know nothing and they will sell you everything you need…

Now that’s advice worth paying for. Now we know. Thanks.
One problem with the Stono in March is the northbound snowbirds…makes it tough to anchor in the shallow water along the banks. But, if you want to give it a shot, try the edge of the grass all along marker 55, 98 and then there are numerous shell banks around the edges of Wadmalaw sound that have trout over them during the moving tides, usually on the back side of the current.
