My son and I got on the water about 7:30 AM from Limehouse with a red sky and glassy water. Tide was just starting to come in and decided to start fishing immediately rather than making the run South. Put the trolling motor down on a short stretch of shoreline and had a red swirl on a Z-man Paddlerz on the second cast. Next cast a red crashes it, but the hook never found a home. This will be what happens 6 more times at over the first three spots:face_with_head_bandage:. They were willing to bite, but not engulfing it. Each time the bait was pulled back on the hook. Total for the first three spots (spots two and three were docks) were 2 mid slot reds, a 16" trout, and a 13" flounder with my son already having an inshore slam.
Decided to make a run to a micro sized flat adjacent to the ICW. Pull up and see some reds swirling. Fished the edge of the flat first with a minnow under a float so as to not spook the reds on the flat. On the second cast the float goes down unassumingly. I give it a slight tug to see if it is snagged, but I feel some movement. Reel down, set the hook and hold on!. Get the fish boatside and it barely fit in the net. Taped out at 34" which is my new inshore best. My son hung another at 27.5" and a legalish trout with the Z-man. That turned out to be it for the day. All reds and the flounder were tagged and trout released.
