Stono to Wadmalaw at low tide

Is the route from the Stono to the Wadmalaw easily navigable at low tide if trying to get to Bohickett? I’ve been that way before, but it’s been well over 10 years and looks like there are some tricky stretches.

Last summer I went at high tide and came back at low tide. 17’ center console never touched bottom. But I didn’t flirt with getting an inch outside of the channel markers. It definitely exposes a lot of shallow areas when the water’s low. I’ve done the ride in 24’ as well at mid-tide with no issues.

As you are passing Cherry Point boat ramp on your left heading towards Bohicket, stick to the right side of the river. Seen many boats run up on the sandbar next to the channel marker. Other than that, once you pass Wadmalaw Sound it’s smooth sailing even on dead low as long as you stay in the middle of the channel.

Thanks for the info. I remembered after I posted there were channel markers, but looking at Google Maps, that Wadmalaw Sound was definitely what was sticking out to me!

Should be no problem and wadmalaw sound is fine. There are spots where it looks like you can cut the corners between the channel, but at low tide I wouldn’t try it, especially as the channel bends around in front of Metal Trades. Stick to the channel.

Thank you, we’re gonna give her a whirl tomorrow.

Fairly easy run while staying withing the channel markers. Key areas to make sure to stay in the channel might be around when you are coming into wadmalaw sound, around metal trades(yonges island) and bohicket creek. When trekking to new areas, I will often use the boating app on my iphone or tablet to scout and get a safe route. Safe travels!

Yep, unfortunately the rude transient boaters that wake all the anchored fishermen as they go from Florida to New Jersey seem to make it through without issue. Wouldn’t mind if a couple of those folks hit the bottom a couple of times. Maybe then they will take the off-shore route!

It is the ICW …

It’s also a very narrow area especially at low tide where there is no respect for smaller boats from these folks.
ICW is not an excuse for common courtesy, just saying

Old Chicken Make Good Soup

what app is that you have there?
