Stono

Last Saturday I fished a tourny out of St Johns Yacht Club. I did not pre fish and not from the area. The only fish I know of up there are at Wadlamaha and that was too far for my boat. I fished the Stono inlet from 8am to 2pm. I just followed the tide casting a million times. Caught 2 reds one of which went in the live well(22")
lots of trout and flounder. Tell me how far off the better fishing I was… Only one small school and miles of bank<><

Are you sure Wadmalaw was too far of a run? It is about a 40 mile round trip. It would have been worth your while to head south on the Stono and not necessarily all way to Wadmalaw Sound. There are good numbers of reds and they are beginning to school up. Sunday we saw a school of 30+ and then fish at every point and creek mouth over a 3/4 mile stretch. The water is dirty so spotting fish is by surface disturbances only and the occasional tail or back showing. The southern portions of the Stono in general is not easy to fish: dirty water, more bait than you can shake a stick at, fish disperse into the vast tidal creeks and flats as soon as they flood, and heavy boat traffic. However, there are consistently good numbers of slot and upper slot reds.

If you ever want to prefish the area, give me a shout.

We did almost exaclty the same thing. 7 redfish right as the sun was coming up then nothing but trout and flounder. We saw enough fish in the grass but couldnt get a red to bite after 8am. Ended up with only one in the slot that was the second fish we caught went 4.55.
