Looking @ sellsfish’s tackle supplier, saw a lot of straight-shank circle hooks for pretty good prices… not as good for bent eye (or the bent eye ones were also offset circles, which i dont want)
I like to snell circle hooks, but usually try to get the bent eye ones so that it lines up nicer.
I am assuming that it doesnt matter much, but is there any practical disadvantage to snelling hooks with a straight shank/eye?
I snell both styles, but the bent eyes seem to hold up longer. I’ve never had one of either come loose while fighting a fish, but I always take a look at it before casting it back out. Go with your personal preference and always re-tie it if it’s coming unraveled.

you don’t even have to use the eye on a properly snelled hook. I snell both

When snelling on a straight eye, you can switch the side you enter the eye from to get the hook to flare out a little away from the line rather than being tucked in. Does it really help? I don’t know but I think that it does so I do it. Try it out.
When fishing heavy grass in freshwater I snell the hook through the eye so it kicks out when tension gets pulled on the weight.
