Strangest fish you been bit by

I was spearing free shaft and had a spear go strait through a big triggerfish.
The spear was well placed, so he wasn’t moving. When I grabbed him, he turned and bit my finger hard enough to take out 1/4 inch of meat under my bite gloves. Hurts, but I’ll be fine.

So whats the strangest fish you’ve been bit by offshore?

I’ve been bitten by a stupid trigger before. They have serious chompers on them.

A big toadfish bit down on my thumbnail about 10 years ago! That hurt

The psychotic clownfish in my aquarium bites pretty hard (relatively speaking, he’s probably only 2 inches long).

A mantis shrimp and a moray eel both drew pretty good blood.

Never did figure out what it was, but got a little nip from this guy in about 60’ of water one day this year.

Anyone know what it is?

Trigger bit my buddy between the thumb and index finger while he was getting the hook out. Left a mark but no break of the skin. After we all had a good laugh at my buddies bad luck I went to get some buried bait a while later out of the fishbox and sure enough the same trigger bit the s%$t out of my finger. Bled like a pig and nearly took the tip off. Aint Karma something.

It seems triggers are known biters. They are yummy but I don’t know if they’re worth another chomp!

leadenwahboy, don’t know what it is, but it looks nasty![:0]

C Tackle , if my Mother in Law, had a jaw like that, she would still have her daughter at home!

leadenwahboy, had to do some diggin’ on that one…YUK! Looks like some type of Lizard fish or Grinner. I would say though “Painted Lizardfish/ Snakefish” Synodus myops ??? Bet they can give you quite a nip!

The fish was not strange, but my daughter once caught a gator trout, panicked and threw the toothy critter in my lap. Ouch!

A buddy of mine stuck his finger in a friend’s aquarium with a pirhana. That one got him pretty good. Watching my older brother who does not fish dancing around with a small squid attached to his finger one night while we were shrimping was quite entertaining. He also picked up a mantis shrimp not knowing any better. Got him to drop that thing before he got snapped.

I was watching my older brother (he was a scuba instructor) play with a puffer fish in front of his class while we were on a trip to The Keys. He was bouncing this little fish back and forth like it was an underwater balloon when all of the sudden he snapped his hand back, looked at it and I could see this gush of blood pouring out of his finger tip.

That puffer took half a dime sized chunk out of his finger. Oh yeah, I laughed.

Back on the boat, the boat captain said puffers bite more people than any other because they are so easy to catch. Of course they can do a lot of damage because they eat … coral. A finger is like a marshmellow to a puffer.

It was more of a glancing blow than a bite, wasn’t bad, but when it happened I worried a bit! Sure is an ugly mofo!

Sure does have a mouth full of sharp little teeth!

I had a 6" black Sea bass ram me in the side of the head as he was trying to eat my ear. When I turned to look at him, I could see zero fear in his eyes. I was in 110’ of water.

A small Atlantic Sharpnose did a number on my index finger on Saturday bout 6 years ago.

Those little ones are spunky. Two were double teaming my spear this weekend when I was lining up to stick a flat fish. I guess I was that way too when I was a teen.
