Striped Bass Challenge

Wow this is why I pretty much gave up Facebook and this site. Every time I come back to either place, I have to see posts and comments like this…

Come on guys. Let the guys who are putting on the tournaments and doing the work make their decisions. Either choose to fish it or not. This site has has turned into a voicing stump to stand on to try to impress each other with either their knowledge, or lack of. Lets all just get along and keep the topics interesting.

As for as the Challenge, the $500 entry fee funds the big pots and event expenses for those wanting a nice purse and to compete at the upper level. The $100 Open division allows for non-pro guys a chance to participate in a big tournament, fish with some great fishermen and have an opportunity to win a few bucks back. Its not a bad gig and provides something to look forward to each year and hopefully on a variety of lakes.

For the trails like Mark puts on (thank you Mark for your hard work), I think $500 is a little steep to attract club type fishermen, unless you have several guys on a boat. Especially by the time you have gas, lodging and bait involved. I think lowering the entry to $250-$300 would really add a few more boats to that trail. I would rather pay $250-$300 and have a slightly smaller, but still very nice pot , than pay $500 to watch the same teams normally place at the top. Most of us do not have sponsors who pay our way like some.

I will check back in next year and see how this site is doing. Right now I have to go fishing… I am sure I will now be attacked as well…

Most “pros” on this board have not only scraped info from club and/or other guys and preach as their own. Some couldn’t catch a cold, but 15 live baits cure that. The MSC is taking a beating in this **** show. Handle it like men and move on.

If MSC is trying to get members…this ain’t helping. If this is the caliber of most members…guess I have ANOTHER reason not to join.

Loon, you should join. MSC is a great club. We’re all superstars in our own right. However, many if not all started by someone else guiding them. The best guys took the few tips and ran with it and learned from a lot of trial and error. Lawcrusher and I have not seen eye to eye in many occasions but back a couple months ago fished a mutual night tournament together and were able to chat face to face and a mutual respect for one another. He’s a great fisherman but we all have our ups and downs. I’m a guy who will poke and prod for all the tips I can get but am not scared to think outside the box and fish where nobody else is. That’s how you learn. Fishing a lot in the past 12 months I’ve learned a lot of what not to do and a little of what to do. The one thing I’ve yet to learn is to keep a log. I’m all for one division, big entries. I fished the OSBTT this past weekend for $500 and fished with a guy with much more board/live bait experience than me. I had no issue ponying up the dough to learn something. We had a crappy day and weighed in 2 mediocre fish and finished middle of the pack. Don’t regret anything and the money was well spent because while fishing we had countless guys sharing info and helping one another. We fished the right spot just didn’t get the big one.

I know this is a dead horse but there are some that has planned a “side tournament” during the SBC for $100 entry fee. I asked if there could be a separate set of scales for the side tourney so that people that were not in the SBC could get in the side tournament. I was told no because they tournament directors of the SBC would prolly not like that… heck they just scared more of these Midland boys will come down there and down the side pot! Lol

I was just messing with Reel Dawg and didn't mean to get anything started. There will be a LHOC tournament this weekend that should be a good one. Deadline line to sign up is tomorrow 12/5 and the entry fee is $250. Be a good opportunity to fish Hartwell and have a chance to win a little Christmas money.
