Striped Bass

Has anyone heard of any DNR programs where they are stocking the Wando with Striped Bass? Caught and released a tagged striper last week way up the Wando and was just curious

If you report the tag you should get all the info you need. They have been stocking the Ashley river for at least the last 6 years and the cooper river for the last 50. Stripers are commonly caught in the wando during the winter months, particularly Beresford creek.

I lost him at the boat so I wasn’t able to get the tag info…was a nice fish, probably @ 24 inches or so. Good to know that there are stripers around - I was unaware that they were this far south.

I recently caught and released a tagged one up that way. I reported to DNR and they wrote back they had released some at Paradise Island Boat Landing I believe in November.

interesting> what is the bait and lure of choice for the stripers?

They bite on just about anything within reason. Ive caught 'em mostly on plastics fishing for reds but also swimbaits, crankbaits and almost any fly. Also when trolling lures behind the boat in winter will attract the. The anadromous migration makes them gorge on food this time of year.
