read up on the south carolina riverene stripers and where to catch them.its usually fishing deep divers and bait fishing near the bottom.i fish in all the rivers here at one point during the winter months when they are in the salt.you will find out when you read about them that they never go in the ocean here like they do up north.anyway, read alot. willy
Just another option - You didn’t say a pref of fresh or salt. S’ville not too far from Santee lakes. This time of the year they start to school and can be caught down deep at Pinopolis Dam and in dead forest out in front of Marion Dam. I have chased the birds on schooling fish on Marion. 23’cc is about what the guides use on lakes - plenty of boat. Nice cats are good in same areas and usually will hook some if bait fishing deep.
i had forgotten about the freshwater part of it.yes, you could try moultrie or marion.i know we used to use herring for bait.jford could probably tell you more about them in freshwater though.there are others on here that fish stripers in freshwater.
I would like to get started on striper fishing, I have never caught one, but I have seen several photos and magazine articles,
what areas wold you recommend for trolling? I’m thinking to troll using live bait,
I live in summerville, and I have a 23’ CC
I normally fish offshore, but this time of the year offshore is not very good, windy, cold and 5 footers most of the time,
any tips will be appreciated, (locations, trolling speed, depths, where to buy or catch the bait, etc, best time of the day, )
thanks
Fernando
I don't know about the five footers, as this is typically the calmest season of the year in the ocean. There are no five footers on lake murray, and I can tell you that if you ride around on a cloudy day this time of year you will find them schooling on the surface. They will also murder a live herring between 40 and 60 ft. If you want to catch rockfish, don't waste your time at Santee. Go to Murray. The fishing has been miserable at Santee for years.

hey what's mapquest?
is that something I can hook up to my GPS?
I don't have a computer at home and the company that I work for have very strong policies about chating and surfing during work hours,
It will take you, depending on where you go to Murray…say a good couple of hours to get there.
mapquest is on the computer… www.mapquest.com but you can use any computer.
I haven’t fished for striper in a few years but plan on doing some this spring. I have had some luck on the Congaree and will be out there this spring.
I’ll be sure to be asking you guys for some advice as we go.
